History of Tir Moreth
The history of Tir Moreth is a story of two peoples that became one.
The first part of the story starts with the exile of an elven prince and him retiring to his holdings at the southeastern edge of Albion. He lost a political gamble and in the dishonor of his exile choose to isolate himself and his followers in the areas later called Tir Mor and Amaca. His name was Arduin P’tolenar.
The second part of the story begins with humans arriving, both across the country and by boat from the continent. They were cautiously welcomed by the elves, who allowed them to settle among the coast. As they began to clear land for their towns, to introduce the agricultural arts of their homelands, many elves became ambiguous about those they had allowed to settle. As the years went by, tensions rose between the two people. Both were, in their own way, nature worshippers and druidic peoples, but their approaches were different. There were minor clashes between the peoples and there were preparations for war underway.
The third part of the story comes with the founding of Nature’s Soft Embrace. The temple managed to provide a framework for the two peoples to come together. The elves respected nature in all it’s forms, the unbound fury of a winter storm as well bountiful summer. The men feared the fury and relied upon the bounty. Nature’s Soft Embrace took in both, showing the elves that nature’s beauty was also reflected in the works of man, in their farms and in their orchards. It showed men that even the destruction of a forest fire gave rise to new life and gifts. This is an old truth, of course, but for these people the temple was an example and an illuminator of a new path.
Not only religion showed the way, at this time the old prince passed away and a new princess took over, one who focused more on finding ways to work together and toil for the future, rather than mourn lost glory. She named herself a guardian of Tir Mor and Amaca, as they were named then, becoming Lady Protector Tir Moreth Kalien P’tolenar, the first of her line to claim that title.
A period of cooperation and intermingling began, which soon opened the door for intermarriage as well. The two peoples began mixing, some of the racial and cultural tensions ebbing away. It was not without challenges or troubles, there was still deeply buried mistrust and hostilities, but between the Lady Protector and the temple, most issues were resolved peacefully where they could be.
The biggest conflict of the times were when a human noble made a gamble for control of the fledgling domain: Donald Moreen. He was a powerful noble and warrior, who managed to get a large part of landowners on his side. With him he also had remnants of cults who saw the ascendency of the NSE as abandonment of their beliefs. There was a small war, unnoticed by much of the larger world, from which the Lady Protector eventually emerged victorious. Her masterstroke was not in defeating the usurper, but rather in making peace with him. She not only granted him mercy, but recognized some of the claims he had made, on a condition of lasting peace and a political marriage. Rather than being P’tolenar or Moreens, their descendants became the P’teen, the now dominant ruling family of Tir Moreth.
The Reign of King Arthur
Tir Moreth was left alone for much of the High King’s reign. The now world-weary Kalien P’teen was agreed with the King’s vision of a united and stronger Albion, but did not have much energy left for the concerns of men. She pursued a policy of neutrality and isolation, leaving much of the world to ignore the minor Protectorate Tir Moreth. She succeeded, ensuring that neither her realm nor her line won much glory in Camelot, nor suffered much in its dissolution.
25 years after the King’s passing, the Lady Protector herself passed away, walking into the deepest woods and she was never seen again. After her passing a council was held to elect the new Protector of Tir Moreth. Two candidates were eventually selected: Eamund Gorwell, a respected merchant and politician and Hunriel P’teen, the youngest scion of the ancient noblehouse. The land’s choice fell upon Hunriel P’teen, making him the new Lord Protector Tir Moreth. After the ceremony, the young Lord Protector managed to recruit Eamund Gorwell as his lieutenant and chamberlain, assuaging many’s fear of a coming schism within the realm.
The 5 years since then has been mostly business as usual. Recently there have been concerns and elation that old policies are changing, trade has been opened up and the young Lord Protector seems to have ideas about which direction the realm should take in the future.
