Salutations to all! In this period of quietness I would like to draw your attention to the kickstarter for Seeds of War. As we are all of at least a slightly similar mindset on a gaming level, or we wouldn't be here, please take a moment of your time to look at this project. It is a game, with some excellent tools to assist running it, right up our collective alley. The developers tried originally to get the IP for Birthright but even though Wizards has killed the line decades ago it still refuses to part with it. (See all previous attempts by birthright.net.) Nevertheless I personally feel not having to deal with Wizards will do nothing but good for a project such as this. Check out the Kickstarter if a new attempt at a realm game that is doable to gm at the table tickle's your interest. And, who knows in the future we might actually get to set up a game for ourselves. The tools seem to make it doable, even for scatterbrained people such as myself. |

Some of those names sound familiar.
I'm curious to see how it turns out. Wavering between just getting the PDF versions and going all the way for the hardcopy.

This seems like a really cool idea and very adaptable. Reminds of the Star War Galaxies after the gamers took it over. With a more modern setting.

Very cool, but it looks like the robo-gm feature (which sounds awesome!) would only happen if a certain funding level was met, and then I'm not clear but it seems that would rely on a hosted web server = monthly subscription? for the players? anyone get a better read on that part?

It says the campaigns will be hosted on their servers, yes. It doesn't say anything about a subscription or about alternatives. The application is a 70K stretch goal, so they're not even halfway there. I looked at this earlier, but I don't like the story concept, so I didn't pledge anything... it just seems pointless to create a world where players rule counties with a galactic-scale threat in the background.

I found the potential subscription service mentioned under the FAQ. Says the web application would "probably" be subscription based, and goes on to say "the subscription would be $5 per month" to create campaigns (so only the GM pays).

Based on the amount of work is involved in turn processing if a web application could reduce that by 50-75% i think both TPA and Linde would call it a great value proposition:P

Looking at it from a purely numbers perspective, a revised ruleset and a good way of making and processing turns would probably be the most crucial.
The more efficient that becomes though, the less flexibility there would be.

I'm ever finding myself interested in things of this fashion and thinking in how something would fit in to a birthright type of play. As such I can only applaud these people taking the extra step. If funded and able to catch on a bit a lot of interesting things could come from this. Not in the least connecting disparate playerbases for similar games and being a fertile base for adaptation. It pleases me greatly that the Kickstarter was a succes.
They'll be working on a prototype of an expanded application as well, with the idea to have an additional Kickstarter to see it fully launched. An application like that might very well take away a bit of the strain of processing that so many times causes problems.
