Upon reaching the western garrison (late WM4), Alden of Helna publicly speaks for the gathered commanders of the forces there:
Not long ago, I had a dream. In the dream, I stood on the beach and I saw myself reflected in the waters between Nemeth and Helna. It was one of those rare days when not a wind moves, and everything seems at peace. The serenity was short lived however, as somehow, still without a wind, my own reflected image started to ripple. The ripples were from further out in the water, where something was... forming? A beautiful human shape, clear as the water it was made of emerged. It blew me a kiss, and moved as if to embrace me. But just as it came on land, something pushed me aside from behind, and jumped straight into the water spirit, wrestling for a second with the water before both shapes broke apart into nothingness and I awoke. I thought nothing of such a weird dream. At least not before the following night, when I found myself at that exact same spot. This time, the water was rough, and full of breaking waves, with foam in the air. A strong wind was blowing, and it was hard for me to stand straight, in fact, I was just about to tumble when the wind suddenly stopped blowing so hard. Instead, it shifted to the sea and coalesced to collect a thousand sprays of foam, into the same shape as in the previous dream. Again, the spirit blew me a kiss and tried to embrace me, when suddenly a wave rose higher than the others, forming a wild faceless girl in leather armor that hacked at the wind holding the shape of the foam. The foam fell to the sea, and I woke up back in my bed.
On the third night, I fell asleep, and this time I instantly noticed I was back in the same spot. The water and wind was as it had been on the previous night, but this time, instead of standing my ground with the wind, I let it guide me away from the beach and into the forest. On my way, I met a great many animals, more than you would normally see in any forest. In the end I stumbled upon a great buck. For a long time, we just stood there, staring at each other, when the buck suddenly bowed its head as if to charge. But I knew that was not its intent. It was honoring me, and then threw its head, as if I should follow. As we walked in the forest, the light was dimming, and the sun was about to set. The forest was till alive with sounds, all around, and showed no sign of dampening. That is when the humanoid from the previous nights stepped around a tree, sword drawn and struck down the buck. In that moment, I recognized my niece, Queen Ursula, in her favorite leather garments with a much faltered royal sigil on her chest. And I woke up in my bed. I knew that was no ordinary dream, but a vision.
On the fourth night, just as on the previous nights, I went to bed and found myself where I had left off. Next to the cold moonlit corpse of a once majestic buck. The forest was dark, but I could see light from a campfire glimmering through the trees. It was quickly becoming a cold and desolate night, so I decided to seek out the fire. When I arrived, it was clearly a campfire started by some woodsmen who had been cutting down the forest. And in the moonlight, I recognized the place to be where Queen Ursula had ordered the nobles of Helna to expand the farms at the cost of the forest - the work that let to the famine in Helna. The camp was deserted, and in shelter beneath a small hill, so I sat down at the fire to get warm. As the cold night progressed, the fire seemed to grow in strength instead of dimming, and the random flickering started to form shapes. Soldiers, ships, farms, the royal court in Nem and so on. In the end, a human form, the same as on the first two nights, took shape. But just as it was about to speak, a large boulder from up the hill that gave shelter against the wind fell on the flames. I first thought the boulder had extinguished the flames, but then I realized there were still a flicker of light coming from the other side of the rock. When I came around the rock, the fire spirit lay trapped under the rock, pleading for me to aid it. When I tried to remove the boulder, and free the spirit, Queen Ursula leaped on top of the stone, with the words "Dont do that". At first I stopped, but the spirit that had kept me warm throughout the night kept pleading for freedom, and it was not right to leave it. Somehow I could feel that I had the strength to lift the rock if I tried. So that is what I motioned to do. Queen Ursula was in my way, sword in hand, so I asked he if she would slay her own uncle for helping a friend? I could see in her eyes she would do it, but as i prepared for the blow, the wind changed and made her stumble, roots grabbed her feet and made her stuck. Unable to stop me, I freed the fire, and as that happened, the forest came back to life, the sun came up and Ursula let out a long breadth of air, uttering the words: "I give up". Her body crumpled, and her spirit flew away, shedding tears as it went, and that is when I awoke with a strength I have not felt since before Ursula was born. That is when I knew that the land itself wanted me to travel to Nem and seek out commander Dale. I could see clearly what I would have to do in order to forge lasting peace, both in Nemeth and on Helna. It is a heavy burden, that should not be taken lightly. Especially considering all the foreigners who are with us here today - but that is why I came to the west garrison as soon as I could. To ensure that someone would stand up, and free the people of Nemeth from tyranny, enslavement and meddeling foreign influences alike. And keep it that way.
Now, let me address some concerns in no uncertain terms:
- Blood runs thicker than water, and I will take care of Princes Arthur, Prince Uther and my own son Prince John, as well as princess Alvina, to ensure they are ready when the time comes for them to take up the mantle and rule. To that end, Rowena, who is well liked and respected by the people of Helna and Nemeth both for her treatments and medical knowledge and who showed great loyalty leading Nemeth in these hard times will continue her work in the court, and also continue the education of the heirs. Commander Dale informs me she cannot be held responsible for what late queen Ursula ordered done and late king Dunbar carried out.
- From what Commander Dale has told me, there can almost be no doubt that Dunbar was guilty in killing Baron Tate. However, a just trial must be held. Since he is known to pray to the one god, I say, let the one god judge him. It is my firm belief that no noble can judge another. It is a burden best left to the gods. As such, Nemeth will take no part in the trial, and will not welcome such a trial on our soil.
- Commander Dale and I appreciate all aid given to get rid of Queen Ursula, but the need for that aid ended when her life ended.
- Queen Ursula failed to address internal matters to Nemeth, and instead spent days and months outside the borders, waging secret wars on who knows what. I will not make the same mistake. Therefore, let it be widely known that any foreigner, previous ally, invited or what not, has a week to leave Nemeth. Anyone left after that will be forcibly evicted. Foreigners are not welcome in Nemeth any more. Any outside nobles or court officials coming to Nemeth without an explicit invitation from me, King Alden of Nemeth, or from the court in my name, can expect to spend time in the royal dungeons. Order will once more reign in Nemeth. For the good people of Nemeth, by the good people of Nemeth.
The following days, it is decreed all around Nemeth, on the word of the newly crowned King Alden of Nemeth, that nobles, armies, court officials and the likes not from Nemeth are to leave Nemeth before war move 6. Anyone left will be attacked and forcibly evicted.
