With very little experience, guilders had traveled up into the wild mountains of Caerleon. There, they had tried to get started on hacking their way through underbrush to get started on building a highway. However, a number of notable challenges accosted them early on.
First of all was their lack of experience. That alone could have explained their failure in progressing as scheduled. Nevertheless, they also quickly found they lacked the appropriate tools to proceed with the work as planned. They noted down the equipment they lacked and continued with their attempts to carry out their assigned task. The third issue they ran into was negotiating with the local village elders. They hadn't considered the issue at first, and so they were unprepared when they realized that several of the locations they intended to build through were actually already owned by a variety of smaller farming settlements, homesteads and the like. Without the necessary funds nor authority to make the purchases, that too was noted.
Later on, they also recognized that there were at least two rivers for them to cross if they wanted the promised highway to actually accomplish what they wanted it to. Going up and around was not an option, as that would add far too many days for travel between Caerleon and Camelot. The usual means for Southwestern Traders to cross a body of water would be with a fleet. However, that was not an option for a highway, so yet again they had met their match.
At least for the time being, it seemed the work was stalled as the guilders and builders assigned were more busy learning than working.

With several failures over spring and summer, and no clear leadership over the course of Autumn, the guilders and builders assigned to the project retired to their various halls in Caerleon.
Gossip in the various inns and taverns throughout Caerleon and Camelot indicated they intended to resume the project at full pace when winter came about, and thus far it was only expected to be delayed by a single season.
Unfortunately, the lack of qualified workers, and the challenging terrain, had proven too much for Southwestern guilders more habituated to traveling at sea than by land. In contrast, the Northern Traders on the other side had the advantage of easier terrain, and more numerous as well as better qualified workers.

With an influx of qualified workers, and secured funding for the winter, the guilders leave their halls and taverns and instead set out into the countryside to resume work on the highway construction. Albeit still habituated to the sea, they now find themselves supported by numerous workers who are more apt at working on land, even on the rough mountainsides of Caerleon.
Should it work, it is known that the guild would expect to have the project finished by the end of summer.
