On the southern shores of Gawant, the cities were quietly bustling. Farmers brought in their harvest, fishermen brought in their fish, and knights looked over the lands as they had done for centuries before, and as they would for centuries to come. In the cities themselves, the goldsmiths of the Southwestern Traders worked diligently at their craft. For the wealthiest of nobles and merchants, they minted a very small number of gold coins, with the likeness of King Frederick. Such coins were only of value to a select few, given their enormous value, but the coins themselves were guaranteed to be good quality gold, and as pure as the craftsmen could make it. They were a very potent trade good and means of payment to the right person.
It had been a few seasons since the union of the Southern and Western Traders, but silver from Helna had made its way to the goldsmiths, where the younger apprentices had begun experimenting with it, creating wondrous jewelry, fit for Kings and Queens. It was thanks to the peace that King Frederick had brought that they could work and focus on their craft, and they appreciated the relative peace and quiet that had graced them, in spite of the onslaught on Albion from Pirates, Slavers and Lothians alike.
Somewhere along those southern shores, guild craftsmen were hard at work. Wessex had been consumed by war, and there was a debt to be repaid. To begin work on efforts to restore Alined to its former glory, and repay the debts owed, they could make accessible the wealth of Gawant to the industrious and loyal people of Alined, with a highway that would cover the lands from the halls of King Frederick in Gawant to the court of the Valiants in Wessex. Both lands were sure to prosper, and as they prospered, so too would its people.
Already now there were travelers on the old road. With hard work, more still might be able to travel it, whether they were to journey between those two realms, or if they intended on journeying further north to holy sites in Caerleon, or further south to the very southern tip of Albion. At some points, the new road might divert and instead traverse more suitable terrain, but the intent was to follow the traditional path so long as it was possible to do so.
