As winter breaks and the last snows are but a memory, invitations goes out to all realms and friends of Umbria and Tir Moreth alike. A wedding is to be held in Elmbay in Tir Mor, coinciding with the annual spring festivities and ceremonies. Princess Elamïra Caern, beloved daughter of King Maevïel Caern, is to be wed to Lord Protector Hunriel P'teen, son of Lady Protector Kalien P'teen. The druids of Nature's Soft Embrace will be conducting the ceremony and all who care are invited to attend.
Elmbay and the rest of Tir Mor is transformed, both by spring as the ancient woods fills with life and sound, but also by the celebrations. Maypoles are erected in every town and village, garlands are hung from the trees along all major roads, song and dance fills the night. The town of Elmbay, now perhaps big enough to be called a city, is close to bursting with celebrants. Every house is appointed with spring flowers as all the trees in and around the town are decorated with druidic and aelven symbols and blessings. At night the trees glow, the mixture used being faintly luminescent. The familial vineyards of the P'teen family and many others of Tir Mor and Amaca deliver wine to fuel the party, adding to the generally celebratory air.
After the first week of celebrations the couple is wed under a ancient Elm on a small island on the Thames. It is both where the ruling families of Tir Moreth have been wed and buried in the past, their remains in graves marked only by a single tree each, planted along the edge of grove, here in the middle of the realm. On both shores of the river, the ancient woods of Eryn Moreth and Eryn Amaca stretch south and north, respectively.
As is fairly well known, the Lord Protector cannot resist an opportunity to speechify, so after Elamïra Caern and he are wed and have said their vows, he holds a brief speech. He praises the union of the fortunes of Umbria and Tir Moreth, promises good things to the people of both realms and their allies, and presents his wife as the Lady Protector of Tir Moreth, his immediate second in protecting and ruling Tir Moreth. It is an optimistic speech, praising his allies efforts to aid Umbria and the end of the isolation of Tir Moreth.
After that, much wine and general rowdiness follows, as the newly wed couple dance and drink deep into the night and all are invited to join them, though the invitation ends at the wedding chambers.
A few observations:
- Eamund Gorwell, the Lord Protector's Chancellor and the Court Financier seems to be recouping the expenses of the festival by running most of the booths and temporary hostels in Elmbay. His prices aren't exorbitant, but he is certainly making a tidy profit.
- Members of the traditionalist faction of the court can be seen and overheard grumbling, both at the many strangers in Tir Moreth, but also at all the talk of ending the realm's isolation. They are clearly not pleased with the direction the Lord Protector has chosen.
- While the new Lady Protector is clearly beautiful and well-liked, the greater part of her reputation comes from her knowledge and advice as a sage and mage. Many see her demeanor as aloof and a bit rigid, her husband appears to be more of social animal than her.
- A week after the wedding the couple travels to Umbria to attend celebrations and ceremonies there and to hold a honeymoon of sorts, by participating in the reconstruction and healing of the realm. Rumors say that King Caern and Lord P'teen have arcane matters to attend to in Bernicia and the trip there is a cover for that.
- The family manor in Elmbay is a glorious mess, both because of the celebrations, but also because of a massive (for Tir Moreth) construction effort to expand the manor and turn it into a small palace. The harbor of Elmbay has been expanded to allow for the shipping of material. The workers take two week off, but return to the work with a vengeance, appearing vaguely surprised that they're getting paid.
- Speaking of messes, in the last 3 months the population of Elmbay has almost doubled and the edge of the city is filled with new houses.
Invitations:
Pretty much all the rulers of Albion are invited to attend or send representatives, as well as Temple of the One God and the Old Faith. Notably no one from either Lothia or the Temple of Blood are invited and the representative from the Hibernian Slavers is quietly turned away, relegated to participate in the festivities in the town if they wish, but not welcome at the lord's table. Perhaps surprisingly, Prince Roy Thraw of Bayard is invited, though the king of Bayard is not.
OOC:
All are welcome to leave a greeting or description of their participation if they like. The wedding is held at the beginning of spring, just at the start of turn 5, so before hostilities break out to the south. Please keep in mind that all this represents a grant action, not a diplomacy action. Would be awesome if NSE could embellish on who conducts the ceremony and how
