Ash the light of life returns to the world together with the spring thaws, the roads clear once more. Undaunted by the still cold nights a procession makes its way from Car Kells to Wessex. Among the group of monks carrying an reliquary a hymn starts up, sweeping over the procession untill each voice is singing along. In the front of the column the Archpriest smiles and crosses his gaze with a knight, and during a pause in the singing looks up once again at the mounted warrior.
"Cheer up Leofric, after all, I am a much smaller target than you five on your destriers." The Archpriest, smiling once more at the taciturn Templar's carefulness, re-joined the singing and marched on. Though he well understood his Templar's worries were part of his duty, Maelgwyn was most happy to be on on the road, walking in the company of his brothers and sisters.
When after long days of travel the procession enters Wessex it visits many a church, shrine and manorhouse on its way to the king's court. Having arrived there they are greeted by Ecclesiast Winfreð, and members of the court with in Wintanceaster. The court of the king is suddenly quite full of clergy of all stripes, though a worried noble noted the temporary nature of it.
Messengers ride out and parishes spread the word; the Archpriest of the faith is in Wessex. A grand ceremony will be held in Wintanceaster. The King his rule will be blessed by the faith. The Archpriest himself will bless the King with a holy relic.
It seems despite the troubled rumours of a renewal in the war Wessex and its people seem determined to meet the world head on, and do so with a zest for life. And some small help from the Creator his humble servants.
