Eltaor and Corym are arguing with Maerel looking by
Eltaor: Corym, I thought you’d agreed not to stir things up, at least for a while.
Corym: And I haven’t, but you keep doing these things. Appointing Zaori to yet another position when she’s been living outside Umbria for so long and only came back less than half a century ago has caused considerable outrage. Several of my councilors and at least one other clan leader has asked me to bring the issue up with the King. I have not been stirring anything up, but I have to represent the concern that are presented to me.
Eltaor: And the fact that We’re fighting yearly undead invasion does not convince you that perhaps such concerns should be put aside until that problem is dealt with.
Corym: The undead threat doesn’t seem to convince Lysanthia or the King to halt the pace of the radical reforms.
Eltaor: That’s because these reforms are designed to help us fight the undead and Bayard if that becomes necessary.
Corym: Come on, you can’t mean to say that our ability to resist the walking dead stand and falls with whatever pittance Zaori can save from the court?
Eltaor: We’ve been winning by small margins, we cannot know what might make the difference. I..
Maerel clears his throat and the two arguing elves look to him.
Maerel: Perhaps we should focus on solutions not an allocating blame. If you will permit an observation cousin, Delsaran has worked with Zaori on constructing the castle. He seems to like her.
Corym: Yes, my son speaks well of her, but the problem is not her character, the problem is that she has insufficient ties to the important clans, she should not have such power. King Caern should revoke at least one of her titles.
Maerel: Well that would be one solution, but we might also seek to remedy the absence of proper ties. As I said Delsaran seem to like her, and it is about time he is married. If they married and we adopted her into the clan it would boost our prestige to have another member so close to the center of the Court and no one could claim a member of Clan Isionia is a dangerous radical.
Corym: Not at first they won’t, but what if she is? We can’t risk her bringing us into disrepute, what are her Politics?
Maerel: She won’t say anything to embarrass us, Zaori doesn’t really have politics.
Eltoar: And have Zaori been consulted on this plan?
Maerel: Consulted no, but she has mentioned Delsaran favourably to to me, I don’t think she’ll be opposed.
Eltaor: And her current clan? I don’t think Lefyr will like having her poached just like that.
Corym: So what? Clan Anuliinde aren’t significant.
Eltaor: somehow I don’t think Maevïel will like publicly snubbing one of his most loyal supporters.
Maerel: Besides Zaori like Lefyr, she’s much less likely to go along if he’s opposed. I was thinking of we could concede to him our northernmost plot of agroforestry in Bernicia. Anuliinde Is a minor clan, that would be significant to them, and the land is closer to their other plots than ours anyways.
Corym: I suppose we could if we must,.
Maerel: All agreed then,
Eltaor: If you think you can get Zaori, lefyr and Delsaran to sign off.
Maerel: I think that should be doable, perhaps then we can get back making plans for dealing with the undead.
