In Bernicia the Aelven court is in a flurry of activity. King Caern is far from a hand-on monarch and usually leaves most off the day to day management of his court to his daughter Lysanthia or trusted aides such as Eltaor or Mearel. Eltaor is busy in North Umbria however and Lysanthia and Maerel are both hunting cultists and so Maevïel takes a personal hand in organizing the permanent relocation of his court.
Maevïel: “Zaori, what’s the status on the permanent staffing?”
Zaori: “Well, we’ve had a number of the those we’ve moved temporarily from North Umbria expressing interest in permanently relocating to Bernicia. So we won’t need to find as many new people as we anticipated, there are still around a hundred positions to be filled with on a permanent basis. I’ve compiled a list of the most likely candidates but Eltaor and Lysanthia usually do the interviews.”
Maevïel: “Can you do that?”
Zaori mutters: “I’m not really comfortable…”
Maevïel: “You really should try to get over that, but that must wait. Draw up at list of who we need right now, I’ll interview them, but I want you to sit in on it. For those less urgent we’ll have Eltaor and Lysanthia do that when they get back. Anything else?
Zaori: “Well it would help a lot if we had more houses constructed near the palace. WE could probably convince a few more to stay on and attract candidate living further afield. It will also make the court run more smoothly and in case of emergencies we can call people in quicker if they’re near the palace grounds.”
Maevïel: “ok, well Corym wanted us to hire his son, draft me a letter asking him to come, he can start with those. It’s not as prestigious a project as he’s probably been wanting, but it’s a start and we can see for ourselves what he can do, better a house is fragile than a castle if he is less talented than his father believes. Delsaran was his name, tell him to come as soon as possible. Anything else?”
Zaori: “We have enough supplies for another half a year I’ll start drawing up permanent contract for supplies but it’s not really urgent, we’ll work it out gradually. I’ll start sending requests to the NT guild house. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
