A gathering of druids are sitting at a ritual site speaking of the tribulations of Camelot.
"So... The king is all but dead, whomever did it continues to elude our divinations and your solution is simply to anoint the baby Queen and allow the Queen mother to rule the land?" Caleb looks at Emrys with disdain before addressing the other druids: "We need to make a stand for what is right, we need Camelot to be a place of tolerance once again! Camelot is ours more than hers and while some may be content with letting the land of our forefathers be left in the hands of those people, there are more who will not." His scornful eyes rest on Emrys as he draws breath to continue his attempt to rally the druids, but before he continues Emrys stand and even Caleb holds his tongue in anticipation of what will be said.
"Caleb, we don't know each other as well as we should, but I still know you well, for we are much alike. We have both lost family to the politics of Camelot, we have both lost friends to the intolerance of men who were unworthy to wield the power they had taken for themselves. But what you propose, is to do unto others what they have done to you. If we follow your advice, then in 20 years, people will gather and curse the names of Caleb, Emrys and all gathered here as killers of fathers and usurpers of the rightful rule and the circle will continue."
Caleb interjects: "But you have the power to secure the future rule, the circle will end."
"So, the price for ending the circle will be my eternal dedication to upholding a rule that is born of intolerance and is only justified because it is supposed to end intolerance. I am in no mood to curse myself eternally by starting such an endeavor. No, wisdom will grow in the hearts of the rulers of Camelot given enough time."
Caleb continues: "It is not a curse, it is a privilege, besides, there are plenty who are willing to fight if you are not, and we can ill afford to wait this out."
"I will not stop you if you wish to go down this path, but I will tell you where the path leads. You will be walking a path of suffering, it will lead to regret and suffering anew. By walking this path you pave the way for your children, and children's children to walk along side you in a tiresome and meaningless quest towards tolerance through the use of intolerance. Your descendants will either rule Camelot, or they will not. Should they rule, then history will not remember the rule of your line as benevolent or tolerant, but rather a tiresome unending quest to cling to the power that you managed to usurp. And whether your attempt is stopped before you claim the throne, or after your line have ruled for a time, people will rejoice when it ends as history will mark your kin as tyrants... No. If you want what is best for Camelot and the people you call yours. Then be true to the vision your family preached so long ago. Go to the castle, announce your line to the throne of old, disavow your claim and offer to serve. That is how to act with the tolerance you preach and how you unite a people rather than divide it."
Emrys start walking away from the gathering with a final word of parting: "The choice is yours."
The druids start murmuring among themselves and Caleb return to his attempt of rallying them.
It is rumored throughout Albion that a lost heir to the kings of old has surfaced and is trying to rally support against the rule of Camelot.
