So I'm wanting to hire a new druid, just wanting to make sure I have my numbers right and didn't miss anything... Target will be: druid similar to Bran Duir or Falea (but nowhere near as cool or spell casty) Base DDC: 5 +5 (5th level) +5 elite stat line and/or PHB methods +5 Realm Magic +5 Druid +5 Realm Magic (none presently, but could in time) -5 Hiring Adviser 25 = Subtotal Does this look right? You're adding +5 for realm magic twice, on the other hand I don't think you can hire him as an advisor if you want to use him for something other than advising you, which is not what Falea or Bran Duir did (that evens out with the double penealty for realm magic though). Remember you can use an additional court action to grant yourself advantage on the roll, and you might be able to ask a friendly regent to cast royal facade on your court to get to +5 bonus there. ETA: Also +5 gets you the intermediary stat line, not the PHB one.

Ah, I thought casting magic was a special skill/power - so glad I don't have to count it twice then.
And I have to hire them on first as an adviser, then later have to promote them I thought to be a LT.
So ends with a subtotal of 20 for 1 court action; then can conceivably use one or two court actions next turn to promote (one to promote, second to grant advantage which is best of two rolls)?
Or since they can cast realm magic potentially in the future, do I have to bump it up by +15 for weak bloodline?

I think you have to hire them first as a specialist, advisors are for epople who give advise, and are not intended to go on adventure cast realm magic, do LT stuff etc (I think) so 25 is probably correct. Also I think the progression is Specialist-->henchmen--> LT Or since they can cast realm magic potentially in the future, do I have to bump it up by +15 for weak bloodline? Well that or you try to get him a bloodline through play. I can keep an eye out for any ToB types who have no futher use for their bloodline, I'm sure nothing bad could happen as a result.

DDC: 5[lvl]+5[Druid]+10[normal stat line]+5[Expert]+10[Realm Magic] = 35
If you do not need to adventure or lead battles, you dont need the stat line for anything. Subtract 5 or 10. Since you are NSE trying to hire a druid, the expert penalty might not apply. Add 15 if you want a weak bloodline (BS of 1). 24 if you want a BS of 10, 35 if you want a BS of 20.
Positive Modifiers to the roll: Ask Hunriel to bless your court to lvl 10 (+5) Decree (+2 or more?) Influence (+?) Stability (+2) Ply Trade if you have a peoples person character (+2) Hiring a well known already established character can make it easier (+5) Use the "Grant Advantage" court action to get advantage on the roll (+5 on average)
Be warned, Linde might apply: Got previous characters killed (-5)
I think it was SWT who asked about upgrading characters (hiring help piece wise) and got a firm no to avoid power creep for those with court actions to spare. That information should narrow the search if you want to look it up.

For clarification you can stack hire help actions for a cumulative +2 on the final hire help action. You can also hire an advisor and then later hire the same character to upgrade him to specialist. But you can't hire a character and then later improve his stats or level by hiring him again. Such improvements are only achieved through training actions.

Wait I can transfer only part of a bloodline? The way I read it it was all.
That's why I was stuck not recruiting a new Realm Spell capable character for now as: Bloodline is + 15 Ddc and Ability to cast realm magic is +10 DdC

Bloodline transfer is all or nothing.

Bloodline transfer is all or nothing. Seems like the answer I was provided earlier was overruled!

Question: What if I hire a character at level 1 and plan that he gets expertises at higher levels?
Answer: If you hire a character without taking the appropriate penalty on DDC for expertises that affect domain actions then he cannot simply choose those expertises at higher levels or through normal retraining. The only characters not bound by this restriction is your regent and any starting lieutenant you have.
Question: So I can't retrain people I have hired to have other proficiencies
Answer: Yes you can Answer: Upon leveling up and you want them to gain access to a feat or class feature that would change the DDC, or when you want to make a change that would affect DDC, you can pay a number of court actions = ½ the change in DDC Each court action costing 1 GB and they must be taken 1 after another in consecutive turns. While those actions are taken the character spends all his actions training and is thus unavailable.

For clarification:
You are allowed to spend hire help actions in preparation of a hire help. Each hire help action spend in preparation cost 1GB and add +2 DAC to the final hire help action. Each preparatory action must be spend in turns prior to the actual hire help action and you may only spend one such preparatory hire help action per turn per character you are trying to attract.
When retraining a character in a way that adds DDC to the initial hire help action you are in effect taking advantage of this option.
Your current regent and any starting lieutenants are exempt from these retraining rules when it comes to level gain. Any class features gained through leveling are available to your current regent and starting lieutenants as soon as he/she/they level up.
Any retraining of your regents abilities once selected will take 1 to 4 training actions per proficiency/ability point/feat/expertise.

So as the diserning individual may have decudes I'm concidering hiring an adventuring group. How do these work exactly. My impression is that they add their proficiency to everything, and can be experticed for +6 for level 5. Is that correct?
Also since stats add to adventure rollsa (right?) what happen if I hire the adventuring group with a +5 or +10 statline?

Are hire help actions prior to the real hire help action limited to 1 per turn or could a realm with a lot of free court actions use 5 Hire help action and get +10 towards a hire help the next turn? Would the the +10 persist if the hire help action failed? Could another +10 be added with another 5 court actions the following turn and the preparation DAC bonus increase to +20DAC?

Linde (x-GM) would need to confirm, but I'd prefer it be like a construction action. Building up each turn until the long search is eventalually successful. A resource splurge to get someone should be advantage and a ton of influence.

But as we have concluded hiring someone who is blooded, is quite the effort, Making hiring Family members very hard. Grant advantage is still only expected to increase the average roll by 5, and i do not think it stacks(multiple grant advantage on the same action). But i am mostly investigating options, as i in the past have taken assumptions that hmm... preformed sub optimally.
