[T12] Initial Investigations Into The Matter of Nemeth - Part 3 - First Flowering
"By appointment of the Council of the Druids of Natures Soft Embrace," a moment silence is allowed before Sir Estian continues, "Such simple words that marked the beginning of a statement that would have such profound effects."
"The full statement is of course," and here Sir Estian picks up a lightly furled parchment from the table next to him and reads.
"An intriguing statement, and one that each of you will present on in the coming months, examining specifically the legality of the decree, comparing and contrasting to both Caerleon and Nemeth law."
"The key points that I expect you to comment on are the statement that Commander Dale drew his authority from the Council of the Druids of Natures Soft Embrace and not from the Laws and Crown of Nemeth, and further that Commander Dale asserted the authority to execute Queen Ursula Uthersdaughter without trial."
"So with this naked threat having been made in Nemeth, and slowly propogating through neighbouring realms in form of rumour the stage is set."
"At the beginning of Summer the Lord Protector of Tir Moreth, Hunriel P'teen, moved with a token force to support the Western Garrison, whilst simultaneously reaching out to Camelot and Caerleon to seek intervention by a party without prior relationship to Nemeth. Now can any of you explain why the Lord Protector might have asked for this?"
At the conclusion of the question a horde of hands rise into the air and Sir Estian pauses for a moment before calling on one of the students, "Yes Jennifer?"
A young woman, in her late teenage years, and close to marriageable age stands, "Both Tir Moreth and Mercia had treaties with Nemeth, and have close relationship with the Council of the Druids of Natures Soft Embrace. Any significant movement of troops from either realm into Nemeth could have had the perception of a takeover, which would have further destabilised the region, and may have caused religious unrest at home."
Her answer provided Jennifer returns to her seat and Sir Estian continues, "That is certainly part of the issue, and as a result of this situation the Lord Pretector of Tir Moreth requested that a coalition of troops from realms not neighbouring Nemeth enter the Kingdom and enforce a modicum of stability. He indicated that he had authority to request this under the terms of his treaty with Nemeth, and with the assent of Queen North of Mercia."
"With this in mind, King Pendragon and Queen Caerleon formed a force from those troops remaining in Wessex and prepared to move into Nemeth with the following mandate.
"To compel Commander Dale to return his troops to the fortification at Western Garrison and to remain within it.
To compel troops loyal to the Crown of Nemeth to return their troops to the Castle at Nem and to remain within it.
To acquire custody of Queen Ursula Utherdaughter from Commander Dale of Western Garrison.
To acquire custody of King Consort Dunbar from Lord Protector P'teen of Tir Moreth.
And finally to empanel an inquest under the law of Nemeth, with judges from amongst the peerage of Nemeth to hear any evidence, and to make such determinations as the peerage of Nemeth saw fit."
"Unfortunately while the Coalition gathered their forces in Wessex the situation in Nemeth spiralled further out of control. Rowena, close counsellor to Queen Ursula Uthersdaughter, organised a rescue attempt. Reports indicate that King Godfred Thraw of Bayard was present and assisted the rescue attempt. We do not know precisely what happened during the attempt but the key details appear to be that a force loyal Queen Ursula breached the walls of the Western Garrison, that inside the garrison Lord Protector P'teen was able to disrupt and otherwise foil the rescue attempt, and finally that while Lord Protector P'teen was stopping the rescue attempt that Commander Dale did go to the place where Queen Ursula was held and did either by himself, or with parties unknown present, kill Queen Ursula."
"And so as chaos loomed the Coalition forces entered Nemeth."

"By appointment of the Council of the Druids of Natures Soft Embrace;
I, Angaidh Dale, Commander of the Western Garrison hereby let it be known to all;
That we have captured our Queen, Ursula Uthersdaughter of Nemeth and intend to put her on trial for her crimes against the people of Nemeth.
That any attempt to interfere with the just proceedings has been ordained indisputable evidence of the guilt of the Queen, and will lead to her summary execution.
That I define interference as being;
Raising troops in Nemeth.
Sending troops to Nemeth.
Commanding armies within the borders of Nemeth.
Straying into the hills of western Nemeth without escort.
Sending people uninvited to the Western garrison.
Creating, ruling or contesting holdings within Nemeth
Casting unsanctioned magic within the boarders of Nemeth that is deemed intrusive by the State Faith of Nemeth.
Agitating against the people of Nemeth within the boarders of Nemeth, as observed by the State Faith of Nemeth.
Any other act that would otherwise risk the continued custody of our Queen.
Justice will prevail.
Angaidh Dale, Commander of the Western Garrison"
