In the Harbors of Bernicia and North Umbria trade has flowed freely for the last few years. The Northern traders have filled meticulous cargo manifest for each shipment but the Aelven official often have not read past the note on the front stating Foodstuff, military supplies or livestock. Sure at times cargoes would be inspected to ensure that the proper taxes where paid but as long as the trader was reputable (and preferably Aelven) this was rare. Now however each manifest is being read carefully and not only have inspections been tribled, they take longer to. Most curiously the elves inspecting the shipment are mages rather than custom officials and they care nothing about what taxes have been paid, but a great deal about where the iron for the weapons were mined. where the trees used for some imported furniture grew and similar esoteric details. In most cases samples are being taken for "testing", though what they’re being tested for is not explained.
Meanwhile mages from King Caerns court are traveling to remote wilderness areas and conducting test on the flow of the local magic. Whether those events are related or not is not clear.

Vesryn sits in King Caerns library reading the books as Lydi’aleera walks in: "Found anything?"
Vesryn: "Possible, our trade used to be limited internal or with the dwarves. now NT imports goods from Camelot and other human lands. it's possible that the influx of goods from low magic lands is causing the problem."
Lydi’aleera: 2That makes sense, we'll have to look into that possibility."
