So ley lines and their ensuing ley networks continue to trip people up. So I though I'd do a TPA PSA on ley lines, but then I realized that the rules are ambiguous so I thought I'd kick off the discussion with what I understand..
There are three actions that create/modify leylines, they are:
Forge Ley Line
Forge Hookup
Forge Extension
Forge Ley Line is the simplest to understand. It links two provinces so that you may use either source in either province to cast a spell. So if I created a Ley Line between Robogdii and Lyceni then I would be able to use the Robogdii source in Lyceni and the Lyceni source in Robogdii.
For ease of record keeping this could be recorded in your P&H as:
Indicating a ley line that goes from Robogdii to Lyceni via Ebla and Vel Abri.
Forge Hookup is the next simplest one to understand, it takes an existing ley line and adds an extra stop to it. So if I take the example above, and I wanted to add Ebla to the ley line, I would use a Forge Hookup action in Ebla targeting the Robogdii < > Leyceni ley line. This creates a link between the hook-up and the ends of the ley line. This means (in our example) that Robogdii, Lyceni and Ebla are all connected.
For ease of record keeping this could be recorded in your P&H as:
Indicating a ley line that goes from Robogdii to Lyceni via Ebla and Vel Abri, with a hook-up in Ebla.
Forge Extension is the most complex, it connects a source to a ley line. It makes the connected source available to the ley line, and the ley line available to the extension. So in our example if I wanted to add an extension to Gangani I would use Forge Extension. Forge extension goes from any province the ley line goes through to the target source. Generally shorter extensions are preferred so the action is easier to do. For this example let add an extension from Vel Abri to Gangani.
For ease of record keeping this could be recorded in your P&H as:
Indicating a ley line that goes from Robogdii to Lyceni via Ebla and Vel Abri, with a hook-up in Ebla, and an extension from Vel Abri to to Gangani.
Key mistakes made (in my opinion):
An extension does not make a ley line longer.
An extension does connect to other extensions, only to the main ley line.
Ley lines that start or end in the same province do not link to each other.
