Also, Caerleon appears to be a very battle-ready kingdom. So much so they'd rather kill someone on the field of battle than execute them ("Cowards!").

Very proper, execution requires paperwork. I dotting and T crossing, very time consuming. A nice, messy battle is so much cleaner.

To be precise, execution requires dotting one I and crossing one t. Combat requires crossing just one t. Murder requires neither.
